The Birth of Ideas – Welcoming VSP Global’s Newest Arrival

The Shop @ VSP Global was welcomed into this world today. Ribbons were cut at the 17th & I Street location as part of the grand opening, but the ceremonial scissors also cut the cord that holds back big ideas.

Open Space for Collaboration – The Shop @ VSP Global

 

Mayor Kevin Johnson, Assemblymember Roger Dickinson, VSP president Jim McGrann and the VSP team stood proudly by as the think-tank of innovation was realized. This ribbon cutting represented a much broader concept than just a building’s christening. It illustrated a trend of disrupting the norms and generating something new. Doors were opened, but so were floodgates. Let the creative collaboration begin!

The Shop @ VSP Global took many hands and minds. I’d like to mention those who contributed to this process. Our client, VSP, the great team who instigated this journey, was led by Jay Sales, the man who doesn’t stop moving; Jeff Ferreira-Pro, who keeps us on track; and Leslie Muller, VP of Design for Marchon Eyeware and our New York connection. Supporting cast members at VSP include: Niki Thomas, George Claire and Lucy Wang – all of whom supported the enormous effort. We can’t forget Jim McGrann for allowing us to “play” with all the great thinkers at VSP; fabricator supreme Casey Marshall; and the fabrication space at the Hacker Lab. Last, but not least, the text-written selfie of the Dreyfuss & Blackford team includes me; Sherry Mack, Director of Interiors; and Raquel Urbani, our Art Director and designer of the building graphics. Big thanks to all!

Although this grand opening would seem to signal an end to this project, in reality, it really marks a beginning. This is the birth of ideas – and will facilitate our continued search for understanding and our quest to create the best environments for creative collaboration.
