5 Questions with Tabitha

December 15, 2021

Tabitha Pontino is a recently Certified Interior Designer. She graduated in December of 2018 from Sacramento State and started three months later at D+B with a couple years of interning under her belt. Since then, she has worked on multiple projects in smaller roles gaining more experience and landed on Richards Boulevard Office Complex doing FF&E for the past two years. Her goal is to one day focus her professional efforts creating design solutions for Sacramento’s homeless and low-income populations and she is currently expecting twins in the new year.

1. What’s the best advice you can give to someone who just started their career?

Soak up as much information as you can! You may not be where you hoped you would or feel like you know what you’re doing, but there is always something to learn or take from. I remember wanting to just be on a project and know what I was doing, but I learned so much from doing a little bit here and there for different kinds of projects!

2. What skill do you think everyone should learn?

This might sound nerdy but budgeting! I don’t do it consistently every month, but ever since my husband and I started paying attention to where our money went and taking control of it, we’ve been able to save so much money on a fairly low income for California. Even if you don’t keep up with it, just be aware of your spending habits and maybe make some adjustments so you’re not wasting money that could be spent elsewhere or multiplying itself in a savings account!

3. Which fictional family would you want to be part of?

Wow, this one took me awhile, but I would have to say the Banks family from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air! I mean who doesn’t want Uncle Phil as a dad or Will as a cousin? That sounds like a blast.

4. If you could have a beer with anyone, who would it be?

Well first of all, it would probably be wine or a mojito, but I would have to say – don’t judge me – Celine Dion. I have loved her since the first grade and I will fight to convince you that she is the most talented vocalist of our time. As someone who loves to sing, I just respect her talent so much and she’s just a super weird quirky normal person! If you’ve ever seen her live, you know that she is so fun and doesn’t really care what she looks like dancing and I love that about her.

5. What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

Currently? Sleeping as much as possible. As it turns out, growing two humans is hard work and very exhausting! I am fully aware that my days of sleeping are numbered, so I’m doing my best to enjoy them! My husband and I are super excited to become parents and equally terrified of this new chapter. It will be interesting to see what life is like with two little people who constantly rely on you for their survival. No pressure.
